The World Heritage Cities Photo Exhibition showcasing the winners of an international photo contest was held under the theme of World Heritage Cities in the Asia-Pacific region.

The event took place in Iksan National Museum (April), followed by Woljeonggyo Bridge in Gyeongju (June), Hwangnyongsa Temple History and Culture Center (July),

and Gyeongju Hwabaek International Convention Center (September, during Heritage Korea), and attracted many people’s attention.

The exhibition in Iksan National Museum, which was organized with the concept of “Memory of the World, Cities of the Future,” unveiled 20 pieces of photos including

the winners of the World Heritage Cities Photo Contest hosted by the Organization of World Heritage Cities Asia-Pacific Regional Secretariat (OWHC-AP),

providing a new experience to enjoy for all tourists visiting Iksan.

In the Woljeonggyo Bridge exhibition, the works of the contest winners were displayed by using the pillars of Woljeonggyo Bridge as one big frame. In particular, four works,

Snowy Gwanghwamun Gate (2nd Place Prize, Lee Jeong-heon, Jongno-gu, Seoul), Dosanseowon Confucian Academy (Prize of Excellence, Park Ye-jeong, Andong),

Coexistence of the Past and the Present (Prize of Excellence, Song Seung-wuk, Jongno-gu, Seoul), and Rays of Sunshine in Samneung (Prize of Excellence, Jeong Wu-won, Gyeongju)

were produced into large photo walls measuring 2.8 m wide and 2.4 m long. The four photo walls fascinated the hearts of many who stopped by to appreciate the works.

The last exhibition held in Gyeongju Hwabaek International Convention Center showcased the winners of past photo contests from 2016 to 2021 by city,

sharing valuable moments in the World Heritage Cities from different perspectives.

The World Heritage Cities Photo Contest has been held annually since 2016, awarding photos that capture the stunning moments of World Heritages and lives of the people in the Asia-Pacific region.

This year’s photo contest was held between March and April under the theme, “Reminiscences of World Heritage Cities,” and 14 outstanding entries won the notable contest.

The World Heritage Cities Photo Contest will not be held in 2022, however we would like to thank you for your participation and support for the Photo Conest and Photo Exhibition.
